Images chiefly depict scenes of nightlife in clubs, bars, casinos and other establishments associated with the entertainment,
gambling and resort industries of the Lake Tahoe area, Palm Springs, the Salton Sea and other western locations in the 1950s
and 1960s. Most images depict customers. Entertainers and employees are also depicted. Among the locations depicted are
Circus Circus, Harrah's, Harvey's, Wagon Wheel, Kon-Tiki, Colonial Club, Tahoe Tropics, Crystal Bay Club, Sherman's Candy
Bar, Salton Sea Yacht Club, Trivas (Carson City) and Turquoise Room (Portland). Among the entertainers depicted are Duke
Ellington, the Mills Brothers, Tony Bennett, Jerry and the Gang, Rudy Grayzell, and possibly Desi Arnaz posing in front of
his Palm Springs hotel. Also includes a few photographs of the Palm Springs area. Accompanying notes, written by the unidentified
photographer, include a brief memoir of the nascent nightlife and gambling industry in Lake Tahoe and Palm Springs in the
1950s, with emphasis on his freelance working conditions at various establishments; and a few lists of subjects he photographed,
some of which are not present in this collection.
